  • Parkside Primary Closure

Wed 18 Mar 2020 Ms Ward

After discussions with the Dept for Education, PACT Trust has decided that Parkside will remain closed tomorrow whilst we continue to review staffing, put plans in place and work to make school operational.

Thank you to parents for your understanding and support over the past few days, I really appreciate it.  Especially thank you to those parents whose kind words and actions made such a difference to us on Tuesday.  Closing school is not a decision I ever take lightly, however the safety of the children and providing adequate provision for them must come first.

We will keep you updated daily as to the situation and once again thank you for your understanding at this difficult time.

  • Royston Ward Alliance Achievement Awards

Fri 13 Mar 2020 Ms Ward

On Wednesday night we were lucky enough to be invited to a special awards ceremony at the Town Hall to meet the Lord Mayor.  I nominated some of our children for awards in the different categories of Citizenship, Sports, Academic, Attendance and Courage and Resilience.

All of our children received awards and we are very proud of them: - a very well done to Max, George, Miley, Amy, Charlie, Emma, Jack, Vishaka and Esmé.  They are all a credit to themselves, their families and Parkside.

  • World Book Day 2020

Fri 06 Mar 2020 Ms Ward

A very big well done to all the children and staff who dressed up today for World Book Day!  Together we raised over £150 and it was lovely to see the children in all their costumes.

What made this an extra special day for Parkside was a visit from our friends at Oakwood Grange care home in Royston.  They very kindly visited all the children in each class and chose some winners.

Here are some of our highlights......

  • Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Fri 20 Dec 2019 Ms Ward

What a very busy December it has been!  We've been 'Whoops a daisied' by Christmas performances from Foundation Stages 1 & 2, 'Hey Ewe'd' in a tremendous performance by Key Stage 1 and celebrated with the Key Stage 2 'Christmas Stars'.  A very big well done to all the children involved in Parkside's performances and a thank you to the staff and parents who made these possible.  We have also said goodbye to Miss Biles who is leaving to go on her world travels in January.  However we are looking forward to having Mrs Smith working with us in Year 5 in the new year.

This week we have also had the pleasure of hosting our first Parkside Choir Concert, where the children from our after school choir and Luke, (their Choirmaster) sang for parents and grandparents.  We all had so much fun, particularly when parents and staff joined in singing 'The Twelve Days of Christmas'!

I'd like to thank all staff, children, parents, grandparents and carers for their hard work and support throughout 2019; without a doubt it is all of you that make Parkside Primary such a special place to be.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

  • Diabetes awareness week

Fri 15 Nov 2019 Ms Ward

Thursday 14th November was World Diabetes Awareness Day, this year the theme was Superheroes!  At Parkside we have been thinking about Diabetes Awareness throughout the week.  On Friday 15th November we held our own Diabetes Awareness Day to raise funds for this charity.

This charity is very important to us at Parkside because we have children and staff who live every day with Diabetes.  We understand how important the work of Diabetes charities is for people who have to manage this condition.

Summer in Y3 has type 1 diabetes and she is Parkside's very own 'Superhero'!  She spent Friday with Ms Ward, taking photos of the children who had dressed up and went to each class, talking to the children and telling her story of what having diabetes means for her.  She was absolutely amazing, so articulate and impressed all the children and adults she spoke to.  Summer was so fantastic, Miss Drake even gave her 5 Dojos!

Congratulations to all children and staff who took part - we managed to raise a fabulous £150 for Diabetes charities!!

  • Remembrance @ Parkside

    Fri 15 Nov 2019
On Monday, Parkside staff and children observed a two minute silence to commemorate those who lost their lives or were affected by war.  Ms Ward along with Junior Leaders Ava and Miley (Y6), Molly and Ashley (Y4), also helped by Amelia and Maja (Y5) went to a service at Royston St John's Cenotaph.  The children represented Parkside as our community remembered the fallen and read a poem.  They took some time to look at and study the names of those who didn't return to Royston after The Great War and World War Two.
  • Parkside Remembers Them

Fri 25 Oct 2019 Ms Ward

    Parkside Remembers Them'

Since September we have been creating our very own Remembrance Memorial to display at Parkside.  Children who go to after school Art and Design club have been collecting, recycling and reusing plastic bottles to make their own 'Waterfall of Poppies' as a tribute to those who have lost their lives in, or have been affected by war.

On Thursday 24th October, The Barnsley Chronicle and Councillor Makinson came to school to photograph our memorial and speak to all the children involved - look out for our pictures in the Chronicle and on their website.

We are so proud of how hard our children, Miss Roberts, Mrs Lukasik and Mrs Greenhoff have worked to create this fantastic design.  'Parkside Remembers Them' is a lasting reminder and tribute from our children and staff of how grateful we are to those who sacrificed their today for our tomorrow.

  • Autumn Activities

Fri 25 Oct 2019 Ms Ward

Working with the police to keep our roads safe

Last week, some of our Y6 children worked with police officers from Cudworth to keep our roads safe.  Our community is concerned about the amount of traffic and speeding cars near to our school so Jack, Emma, Ava, Ollie, Mckenzie and Ella all worked with the officers.  They took turns using the speed gun to capture the speed that cars were travelling at; if any cars were over the speed limit, the officers stopped them and spoke to them.  Our children were really mature and also spoke to the drivers who were speeding, explaining how dangerous this was, particularly near to schools.

  • Y6 - Fundraising Citizenship

Fri 18 Oct 2019 Ms Ward

Over the past couple of weeks, Emma, Miley, Charlie, Abi and Molly from Y6 have been running a stall to raise money for charity.

Emma and her friends came to see me in September and said they would like to raise some money for St Luke's Hospice in Sheffield because they had looked after Emma's Nan when she was ill.

The girls worked together, making posters and persuading people to donate unwanted toys, gifts, books, DVDs and sweets for them to sell.  They raised a fantastic total of £36.50!!

Parkside have agreed to round this up to £50 which will be sent to St Luke's Hospice along with a letter from the girls and some pictures showing off the girls' stall.

Well done Emma, Miley, Charlie, Abi and Molly for being such brilliant citizens and fundraising for such a worthy cause!
